With summer in full swing I wanted to share a roundup of my favorites right now. It’s been an exceptionally hot and humid summer this year. My skin has definitely felt it and while few things can truly survive the extreme heat, I have a lot of new beauty discoveries I’ve been loving this year.
Raffia Bags
I love a good raffia bag and this Loewe Medium Basket is one I bought three years ago (time truly flies). It’s held up remarkably well even though I’ve read mixed reviews about this style. Mine was a seasonal color but they still make the classic beige with the black or brown logo, along with a few newer styles this year. I’ve had my eye on some Miu Miu ones but haven’t been able to decide on a color just yet. If you have any favorites let me know!
For a more affordable option, Eric Javits Squishee Tote has been a long time favorite. These are beautifully made and hold their shape well if you prefer a more structured style. I have it in two colors (black mix and neutral mix) and they’ve also lasted me a very long time.
Summer Hats
Continuing on the Eric Javits note, the hats from his line are a must-have for me. I always bring them with me to the pool or beach because offer the best sun protection out of all the hats I’ve tried. The Hamptons style is my favorite, but I also love the Bucket Hats. They have great sales when you shop direct on their site.
Favorite Sunglasses
I have a bit of a sunglass addiction but since finding these Chanel Rectangle ones, I really haven’t splurged a lot on other styles. I own this in the tortoise and black – they really go with literally everything and I love the shape. These are also the ones I get the most compliments on!
Portable Fan
The Dyson HushJet Portable Mini Fan was an impulse buy this year and I love it. It fits easily into my tote and it was a lifesaver for me during Miami Swim Week.
Suncreens
I’m working on an updated sunscreen roundup but I have some favorites I wanted to share now. Finding one that is compatible with makeup, stays put, doesn’t slide into the eyes and still offers high SPF isn’t easy. Many of you ask for mineral recommendations, but I still prefer chemical formulas.
For the face I’ve been really loving the La Roche Posay Anthelios UVAir Serum Sunscreen SPF50, Tatcha The Milky Sunscreen SPF 50+, Prequel Solar Shade SPF 46, Chanel UV Essentiel and the new Christian Dior Le Fluide Invisible SPF 50. These are compatible my foundations with high SPF ratings and have worn really well for me.
For the body Shiseido wins hands down for the best long-wear formula that is sweat and water resistant. The Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector has been my go-to for years. I also tried the Sun Protector Mineral version which has incredible lasting power and it adheres well to the skin. The only downside is that it is really hard to remove at the end of the day.
I also love the Kopari Sunglaze Sheer Body Mist. For me this is superior to most sunscreen sprays because this one is not an aerosol. You can actually see where it’s applied on the skin and it lasts really well even in the water. The shimmer is beautiful and not overly glittery. It has a good dry down without feeling greasy.
The Best Body Oil
With the heat my skin has felt exceptionally dry lately. I recently rediscovered the L’Occitane Almond Body Oil and I now remember why I loved it so much. The updated look is beautiful but it’s the same as the original. The Almond Shower Oil is another staple both Andrew and I love. It feels so luxurious! The Shower Oil will be in this Almond Gift Set starting next week during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
Makeup Favorites
I have so many new makeup favorites this year. My favorite new foundation launch this year has to be the YSL Skin Affair Soft Glow Cushion Foundation in 7.5N (see it in action here). It’s so easy to apply, doesn’t take a lot of work to blend, and the coverage is just perfect. It lasts all day on me and I love the way it looks like skin but better.
To add a healthy glow into the complexion I’ve been really loving the Sarah Creal Today’s Highlights Cream highlighters. They add a beautiful dewy glow without being sticky like a lot of baume sticks. I love that they look so natural on the skin.
Charlotte Tilbury’s Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint is still a favorite. I’ll layer or mix it with other foundations. One of you recommended it over the Hollywood Flawless Filter for a more natural glow, and you were absolutely right! I wear this in Shade 7.5.
Armani Fluid Sheers are of course a classic. I alternate between Shades 10 or 11 because they pull closer to my skintone for that lit-from-within soft glow.
The Rhode Highlight Milks are also worth mentioning. Full review here. They’re glowy and I love the thinner fluid texture.
For cream bronzers, there is a three-way tie between Rhode Pocket Bronze, Westman Atelier Soleil Parfait Duos and Dior Forever Skin Bronze Stick. I’ve always been a powder bronzer person but this year’s launches have completely changed my mind.
Rhode is the most creamy and easiest to blend (review here, demo here)
Westman Atelier duos have a great neutral and cool mix (review here, on the skin here)
Dior is the best satin formula that lasts the longest on me (review + swatches here)
The Best Summer Red
For nails I’ve been obsessed with is Essie Geranium. You girls know my go-to pedicure shade is usually Hermes Orange Poppy but I switched it up this year. Over last Christmas Andrew booked us a staycation at The Standard Spa in Miami Beach. We had spa treatments and mani/pedis together and we had the best time. I brought my own colors for my pedicure but at the last minute I asked Andrew to help me pick a new color. He picked out Geranium and I ordered a bottle as soon as we got home. It’s been on my toes almost non-stop this entire year. It’s truly the perfect bold summer red. (Sandals are Fendi and I love them, they run TTS but I recommend adding these anti-slip grip pads.)
Lip Loves
For lips I shared the Chanel Rouge Coco Baume Shine in Sparkling Pink a few weeks ago and unfortunately it sold out so fast. While I don’t have a dupe recommendation I think the Dior Addict Lip Glow Butter in Pink gives a similar effect (review here). And if shimmer isn’t your thing the newer YSL Candy Glaze in Bubblegum Pink (swatched here) is definitely a favorite.
I’m still a neutral lip lover at heart although I’ve been playing around with other tones lately. The best neutrals for me right now are the Chanel Rouge Coco Baume in Honey Bliss (swatched here, it will be in this cute set next week) and the Chanel Rouge Coco Hydra Gloss in 443 Impertinente (reviewed here).
Hair Care Obsessions
I also have two hair care loves I can’t stop using. The Oribe Detangling Spray is still the best detangler I’ve tried and it’s been a lifesaver because my hair tangles so easily on the ends these days. I’ve also been reaching for the Oribe Supershine Smoothing Wax Stick a lot. It’s similar to the R+Co Dart Stick but I’ve been reaching for the Oribe more, it gives a little more of a shine.
Neither stick looks or feels greasy, but if you have any level of sweat, you will definitely need to wash your hair in the evenings. I would love to find a hair spray that works on my hair, but for my pesky flyaways the wax pomade sticks are the only things that work for me.
Summer Perfumes
Last but not least, I have two new perfumes I have been completely obsessed with this year. I discovered Memo Paris thanks to a few influencers I met this year. The latest launch from them is Menorca and it is the best citrusy bergamot I’ve smelled this year. Think notes of bergamot, salty vibes, neroli, ginger, lemon and sandalwood.
I will always be a Creed fan and Wild Vetiver is probably my favorite scent of the year. It’s very potent and so unique. It has a beautiful mix of vetiver, bergamot, timur berry, rose, geranium, blackcurrent, cedarwood and amberwood. This is the fragrance that I get stopped and asked about the most. If you are familiar with Creed scents, the new Wild Vetiver is very different from Original Vetiver which smells more really clean and fresh (and more masculine to me). The Wild Vetiver is the bold feminine version. I love the sea green Refillable Atomizer they launched with this perfume too (but you can put any scent inside).
A quick shout out for two that are not new but still summer in a bottle. I love Kilian’s Sunkissed Goddess and Creed Virgin Island Water for those iconic summer scents.
I know this was a long list but I wanted to round up everything in one post! If you have any summer loves let me know in the comments!
