Painless and effective!
This is a very good at home IPL hair removal device. I’ve been using it on my underarms and legs for about six weeks. For the first few weeks I used it every few days, but I’m down to using it once a week now.I’m amazed at how pain-free it is. No burning or stinging, even at the highest settings. And you can really feel the ice-cooling! It’s pretty easy to use. It does have to be flush with the contour of the area you’re treating, so areas like your shin bone can be a little tricky. There’s am indicator light that tells you when it’s ready to “zap”.It comes with sunglasses, a little razor, and a storage bag. Use the sunglasses! The pulses of light are very bright.The “fast mode” is phenomenal for larger areas, like your legs. It makes such quick work of it.Most importantly, it worked for me. I very rarely need to shave my underarms or legs anymore. I do get some light growth and stray hairs now and then, but I’ve definitely seen a significant reduction.I do wish it was rechargeable instead of corded, but I honestly haven’t had any trouble with the length of the cord.A great hair removal option!

Nice little device. Comfortable to use and seems to be effective. I just wish that it came with attachments to make it easier to use on all areas.

Not sure if it’s working. I used it 3 times so far over 3 week period.

I have had this device for a month now and tested it on an area with particularly coarse hair. According to its user’s manual (English and French), it’s suitable for dark hair (mine is black) on light enough skin (Fitzpatrick skin types I-V; mine is II), and there are four treatment strengths, Fast, Normal, High, SHR (Super Hair Removal) as well as the auto mode that you can use on large areas like the legs in every strength except for SHR. You can use it anywhere on the body except near the eyes, because the light is very intense and could damage them. And, generally, you should treat an area once every 2 days for a month, then go down in frequency to once every 2 or 4 weeks.That’s the theory. In practice, there are limitations that prevent you from using the device in some areas. For context, the skin sensor is on one side of the treatment window, and it must detect skin to let the device fire a pulse; the treatment window is a huge rectangle of 25 mm x 12 mm (an inch by half an inch). First, around the knees and the tibia (bone at the front of the calves), because the treatment window is so large that the skin sensor won’t detect skin around it and won’t fire. Second, on most of the face, either because it’s too curvy or the device’s treatment window is too big, especially around the lips, and would only fit if you dislocated your nose or your lips are light-coloured enough that they can tolerate being lit up. So this is very much a device to remove hair on large areas of skin, not a precision device. You may actually need to complement this with a precision IPL device… which would cost you some more.I caught a glimpse of the light through the provided protective goggles, with my eyes closed and averted, during treatments. It’s very intense and the bursts last less than 1/10 of a second. I was very thankful for the goggles! I also noticed a very strong burnt hair smell from the very first treatment, which was very promising. And it was indeed very effective, though less than the 96% in 2 weeks claimed on the listing in some areas. I noticed an almost complete clearing of hair on my armpits, but the bikini area is more like 20% bald spots, 30% hairs growing back shorter and an overall pigment reduction of around 60%. More sessions will be needed to continue clearing that.The treatment area is positively cool, but that does mean it gets positively hot around it, so in tight spots you could burn your skin not from the treatment window, but from the cooling of it. That is thankfully very few spots around the body, so you could plan accordingly by removing hair on those spots first, before heat has had time to build up.

I’ve tried a variety of IPL devices now and find them pretty time-consuming and the payoff hasn’t been impressive to say the least. I had seen this elsewhere, so my interest was already piqued. My main target areas for this device are for my underarms, calves, and bikini area. Studies have shown you need to be persistent with IPL sessions, otherwise you may only end up with temporarily slowed down hair regrowth. You need to hit every hair follicle multiple times during its growth cycle. One zap every month or so won’t be at all sufficient.For reference, I have very pale skin and light brown/brown body hair (depends on the area). The darker your skin and closer it is to being the same color as your hair color, the harder the laser will be able to differentiate between what it’s supposed to be targeting (hair shaft/follicle), that’s why it’s not as effective or not as advisable for darker skin tones or people with light or grey hairs—it’s pointless, and you risk damaging your skin.Make sure you ALWAYS wear the protective lenses with this device as the laser flashes can damage your sight.By the way, you can’t epilate if you’re going to be doing IPL. The laser works by targeting the freshly shaven hair shaft and follicle in your skin, if you’ve ripped your hairs out from their follicles, the laser won’t have anything to target! Lay off epilating for the duration of your time committed to using this IPL.Considering the premium price point of the Ulike Air 10, I’d expect something like this to have a nice hard-shell storage case for the Air 10, protective goggles, and bulky power adapter and cord. Instead, they give you a fabric drawstring bag… That seems low-effort to me!The most important spec to look for in an at home IPL device is its maximum energy fluence (measured in J/cm²) which takes into account the output energy, spot size and pulse duration. The Ulike Air 10 has a maximum fluence of 6.66 J/cm² which actually does NOT make it stand out from the crowd of other IPL devices I’ve tried.PROS+ Comes with FOLDING protective goggles! So much more convenient! (love them)+ Includes a small shaving razor+ Fabric drawstring bag is provided for storage+ Better, more effective cooling feature to reduce pain at the max energy level+ In-line with other at home IPL devices in terms of max energy fluence and potential effectiveness (dependent on your skin tone & hair color, AND your consistency)CONS- Bulky and heavy (406 grams). Not ergonomic in shape.- Drawstring bag instead of a nice hardshell storage case at this premium price point??- No more powerful than other at home IPL devices I’ve tried, which were half the price (all max fluence of 6.66 J/cm²)- $$$
