    So hydrating!
I love this product so much! I used to use retinol a few years ago before I had kids, it was a very low dose/percentage, but I feel like it only helped my skin so much. Last year I had a baby and my skin broke out from hormonal, acne, and my skin got a lot of texture on it.I couldn’t use anything at the time too strong to help my acne, just things to keep it at bay. Since giving birth, I looked high and low for an unaffordable. I couldn’t use anything at the time too strong to help my acne, just things to keep it at bay. Since giving birth, I looked high and low for an affordable retinal but one that will also not dry me out. The Ordinary retinol 1% + squalene has truly transformed my skin! My texture is completely gone, and I have the smoothest skin. My pores are starting to really minimize and I have less frequent breakouts. I have also noticed that my acne scores are starting to go away/lighten up. I love that. This is also a hydrating product, like I said right now in the past has only done so much for my skin but also it tends to be a drying product so I love that this is doing 2 in 1. You get a pretty big bottle for the price point. The retinal is very easy to apply, almost like a serum, not too sticky or thick, more watery/oil-based. I use use this at night after cleansing and follow up with a gel/light moisturizer and I’m done.

    A Potent Anti-Aging Powerhouse
The Ordinary Retinol 1% in Squalane (1 Fl Oz) is a standout serum for tackling signs of aging, and it’s earned its place in my nightly skincare routine. This high-strength, water-free formula delivers 1% pure retinol, a proven ingredient for reducing fine lines, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone by boosting collagen and elastin production. After about a month of using 2-3 drops in the evening, my skin looks smoother, with noticeable fading of forehead lines and sunspots, leaving a more even, radiant complexion. The squalane base is a game-changer, keeping my combination skin hydrated and countering the dryness often linked with retinol, making it surprisingly gentle for such a potent product. The lightweight, slightly oily texture absorbs within 10-15 minutes without feeling greasy, and I apply it after water-based serums but before heavier creams, as recommended. The dropper bottle is precise, and the 1 oz size lasts ages given the small amount needed. I started with The Ordinary’s 0.2% retinol to build tolerance, which was wise, as some users report irritation or peeling with the 1% if jumping in too fast. I had mild flaking initially but eased into it by using it 2-3 times a week, paired with a nourishing cream, and now my skin handles it well. Refrigerating it after opening, as advised, keeps it fresh for the three-month usage period. Some users find it too oily or note minor redness, but the squalane helps buffer sensitivity, and I’ve had no breakouts, unlike with other retinol products. It’s not an acne treatment, so I pair it with other products for blemishes. The affordability is unbeatable—high-end retinol serums cost five times as much for similar strength! For anyone seeking a budget-friendly, effective anti-aging serum with visible results, this is a fantastic choice, just start slow and use sunscreen daily, as retinol increases sun sensitivity. Patch test, avoid other retinoids, and consult a dermatologist if pregnant or sensitive.

    Skincare Staple!
This has become a staple in my skincare routine! I use it every evening before bed because it does make my skin feel a bit more oily than usual, but that’s expected with the squalane base. It absorbs well overnight and has really helped improve my skin’s texture and overall clarity. A little goes a long way, and I love how effective it is without irritating my skin. Definitely a great, affordable option for adding retinol to your routine!

Potent Anti-Aging Results in a Simple Formula – But Expect a Greasy Finish
This high-strength retinol from The Ordinary really delivers on smoothing texture and refining fine lines. After a few weeks of consistent use, I noticed brighter skin and a more even tone. It’s effective, no-frills, and budget-friendly compared to high-end alternatives. However, the squalane base makes it feel quite oily on the skin — even for someone used to heavier nighttime products. It’s definitely best for evening use, and I’d recommend layering it carefully or avoiding it if you’re prone to breakouts from oil-based formulas.Pros:-Visible improvement in skin texture and tone-High-strength retinol at an affordable price-Simple, effective ingredients-No added fragrance or fillersCons:-Leaves a greasy, oily finish-May not suit oily or acne-prone skin types-Can cause irritation without proper hydration or skin prep

Simple but great value for money.
I think that the Ordinary serum is really well priced. I usually buy more expensive retinol but can’t afford the higher end stuff right now. This serum isn’t too sticky which is what I like the most, and feels easy to absorb on the skin. I have dryer skin but haven’t felt that this dried me out too much.

Noticeable results in just a few days!
I’ve been using this serum for about a week and I can already see a difference in my skin texture. It feels smoother, more hydrated, and looks healthier overall. It absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave any greasy residue. Great addition to my skincare routine — highly recommended!

    Best For Dryer Skin
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I like the fact that they actually tell you the concentration of the retinol, but I struggle to not use too much because it is oily. I have normal skin except for my nose and eyelids. Someone with dryer skin might absorb it better.

The difference between this and other Retinol products is that this one is a mix with squalene.Means it works without drying the skin.

Thanks to the presence of squalane, one can start using 1% retinol directly on the face at night without experiencing dryness, as the moisturizing properties of squalane help prevent it. However, in my opinion, retinaldehyde—being closer to prescription-strength retinoids—can be more effective. It may cause dryness initially, but over time, the skin builds tolerance, and the results are often better. That said, retinol is still a great option when used consistently over a longer period.

Leaves my skin very soft, absorbs into skin even though I use a generous amount and doesn’t leave me looking oily.
