Moreover, the exercises are helpful, and one customer notes they delivered immediate improvement. Additionally, the book is fairly short and contains good visual content, with one review highlighting how illustrations and pictures clearly demonstrate techniques. my lower back bothers me once in a while due to activities like extensive cooking
This book is extremely educational!!! As a food blogger and food photographer, my lower back bothers me once in a while due to activities like extensive cooking, bending over to take photos, and loading up the dishwasher, etc. I discovered this book and decided to educate myself on my back. Oh boy! What a great learning experience! The author explained the combination of our spine in a very easy-to-understand way with graphics to support the explanation. I was able to learn what sciatica nerve is, where it locates, what causes the back pain, how to deal with the pain, and how to prevent the pain in one sitting. According to this book, there are many exercises that you can do at home to reduce your pain. Sean demonstrates how to do these exercises correctly with images included. What I loved the most about this book is the specific body mechanics for activities of daily life. This book teaches you how to load a dishwasher, vacuum, sweep and mop correctly in terms of your body posture in order to prevent back pain. The suggestions are extremely practical and you can start paying attention and change to the way you do these daily activities TODAY. Super helpful!

Short but good
The author of the book is a physical therapist and his goal is to provide real world solutions based on his clinical practice. This is a fairly short books which covers the basics. The eight exercises covered in the book are the exercises I received by going to a local physical therapist so have full confidence that this book follows the standard practice and the author knows what he is writing about. I only wish there were more exercises included in the book, I was looking to add something to the ones I was already doing. The book starts with basics definition sciatica, common causes, anatomy. The next chapter covers how to treat early symptoms from use to medications. The next chapter shows four stretching physical therapy exercises that help back pain. The book contains both photos and verbal explanation of each specific exercises so it is easy to follow along. The author also includes exercises that should be avoided by people with back problems. This is just as important as doing the good exercises. In addition to stretching exercises the book also has four core strengthening exercises.Ali Julia review

Highly Recommended! Say “So Long” to Sciatica Pain With this Book
Wow – having dealt with sciatica pain the last several months after an automobile accident, this book by a “real live” physical therapist was eye-opening to me!How do you know when to use heat or ice? Will traction help? Can you do traction on your own at home when you have pain? (Hint: Yes!)What type of symptoms do you need to seek professional help for treatment? (that was really important for me to understand)This easy-on-the-eyes print and paragraph style made reading a delight. Sean obviously knows exactly what he’s talking about and you will get relief if you follow his advice!Perhaps the most valuable tip of all (towards the end of the book): What can you do to prevent the dreaded 2 year cycle of sciatic pain from recurring in your body? Don’t miss this, folks. It will help you understand what’s going on with your body after an injury and what you can do to support the process of healing (instead of aggravating the problem).Highly Recommended!

Thank you Sean! I will treasure this book.
Did you know not to round your back when you vacuum? Makes sense doesn’t it when you have back pain; not to put more stress on it. Yet common sense often doesn’t get applied till someone points it out to you. Well if you suffer from backpain, Sean is the man to point out to you what to do and what not to do.The book starts off with a detailed explanation of the various causes for back pain and then continuous on explaining in detail what to do to get relief. But Sean also explains what NOT TO DO and I think that this is an important part which is often overlooked in these kind of self-help books.Sean is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist who works at one of the nations top Spine Centres as a Lead Physical Therapist. He knows his stuff! What I really like about the book is that the information is not overwhelming but very practical advice which I can apply straight away. I will refer back to this book much and hope to continue improving my health with the help of the exercises given in the book.

This little book was very helpful! It explained the problem and gave clear information about exactly what to do and what not to do to do to make it better.
Thanks so much for this wonderful guide. This book was short enough to read quickly but long enough to give detailed information that was helpful to both me and my husband. Knowing which exercises are going to be helpful and what can make it worse and should be avoided was especially helpful. I would also recommend checking out the Gokhale Method.

Some contradictions from my PhyTherapist..what do I do?
After reading this I did find it very informative but at the same time some of the advice..not a lot though, contradicts what my Physical therapist recommends.

I have been suffering with sciatica pain for the last one year. I read many books on Sciatica and the treatments by various authors. But your book I liked very much. It explains the topic so vividly, I did not wish to keep it down till I finished it. I learned many new things. Thank you very much and wish you success in your endeavour to train people.

Another great book by Sean Sumner. As a Yoga Teacher I particularly love the chapters that list stretches that are suitable and beneficial for people with sciatica and stretches to avoid! And I appreciate the pictures, which illustrate the stretches! This is great for me to know and this is a great book for me to recommend to clients. I also particularly like the chapter the provides strengthening exercises and addresses body mechanics like general body alignment, sitting, standing, and integrating good habits into everyday activities like driving, mopping, loading/unloading dishwater, etc. I am a firm believer that it is the little things that we do everyday that matter, so getting the fundamentals right with Sean’s recommendations is essential. Thanks again Sean, I highly recommend your book!

Good unless you know the basics then just average. Not very detailed and would appreciate more insights. Reads well though.
