Really neat structural aluminum malleable splint variation
I’m not quite sure how I missed that this type of device even existed (I guess most of my first-aid training tended to focus on holes being where there aren’t supposed to be holes and cardiopulmonary issues), but I was interested to get a chance to test out how these would work.I ended up with the 4 pack (with the intention of distributing them among kits), so I promptly pulled one out to do some testing on. These fold down nicely and are surprisingly lightweight for their size and capability. It’s worth checking a couple of videos on best uses as there are limited instructions in the package, and the video on the product page shows one that has already been trimmed to length. Checking around, I learned about all the various option from folding the material over itself to various options of encasing limbs on both sizes depending on where it’s needed.Once unwrapped, these are readily malleable to form around a limb, and adding a little curvature to wrap a limb really adds some structure to holding everything in place.Once done testing, I was able to fold it back pretty closely to its original shape and have no concerns about being able to reuse if needed (the wrapping is another matter, but there are plenty of tape options which can perform a similar role).Overall, I’m impressed with the design of these. I do have to note that looking at competitors (now that I know they exist), there are many other well-reviewed option available at slightly lower pricing, but I do admit to being impressed with these!
