A little tip goes a long way
I normally do not write reviews but I am on this one because I am aware of all the negative reviews and do not want the product to be discontinued.I have been using this product for about 2 years, every month to a month and a half between my salon gray covering. I am Asian with very dark hair, and even with “dark brown” the result has been somewhat mediocre. The last couple of times I noticed that it hardly covered anything. Then I found out that this product can be used on the wet hair by reading the Q&A, and also read on the internet that the tip for the home hair coloring is the heat. So, I suspected that the reason it didnât work very well is due to this extreme cold weather, and tried following:- Got in the shower and shampooed the hair to wash out all the hair product- Towel-dried the hair and applied the product on damp hair- Briefly blasted the applied area with hot air with a hair dryer (not completely dry, just to apply a little bit of heat)- Put the shower cap on to retain the warmth and left it for about an hour (probably too long but I wanted to make sure)- Rinse with cold-to-lukewarm water, apply conditioner, and repeat the rinseAnd Voila! It worked, covering the gray probably the best ever in my previous touch-ups. This time, all the gray was colored, enough to blend in with the rest just right. No more eye-sore white sticking out! I feel that the key is the heat so I will play around with other parameters little more (no pre-shampoo, shorter leaving time, etc) next time.

Disappointing results, showering makes color wash out every 3rd day.
I bought the Clairol Root Touch-Up Semi-Permanent Hair Color Blending Gel, 5 Medium Brown, because I have grey wisps of grey around my face , although the rest of my hair remains a medium/dark brown. I even put this on the Amazon Subscribe & Save list. To it’s credit, the applicator works extremely well, better than any other root touch-up I have ever tried.The disappointment is the semi-permanent dye. I expected the result would last at least 2-3 weeks, maybe up to 4 weeks. I discovered the color washes out after 3-4 shampoos. This translates to LESS than ONE WEEK, that’s works out to be about 10 applications each month, making this Clairol product a massive waste of time. Last time I equate Clairol with quality. The last temporary root coverage, lasted for 3 weeks at a time.Despite the super-easy & neat application method, skip this product to find a better product.

Excellent control for gray blending, low-light.
Just what I’ve looking for growing out my gray hair!!! My hairstylist told me to add some low-lights (darker color). As I grew out my gray, the low lights really help to blend the gray and old colored hair. The new brush applicator was so easy to use and gave me control on where and how much hair to color. Love it!

Don’t shampoo after applying
When I first started using this I did not follow the directions and washed my hair after application. It did nothing to color my roots. I finally decided to read the directions and it states apply to wet hair but do not shampoo. So shampoo first, apply color, then rinse out. It lasts at least 5 washing for me if I apply per directions and leave on 15 minutes.

The instructions recommend applying to wet hair, did not work. Reapplied and still did not cover the grey. Their other touch-up works so well. I was excited about the mess-free application and since I use the brand regularly, I had higher expectations. I’ll try again on dry hair but for now, disappointed in the (lack of) results.

Easy, Reusable, read ..
Works well and so easy, and can reuse what’s left in tube for next time!. Don’t shampoo until 48-72 hours after use. Left on grey roots for approximately 30 minutes minutes on my fine light brown hair. Using for years!

Does not cover greys
I used this the first time , followed the directions to the T and even left it on longer as suggested for stubborn grays. This did nothing to cover one single grey hair! The 2nd time I used it I left it in even longer than suggested, 10 min longer, it didnât cover any grey hairs. Iâve never had an issue with any hair dye. This product is absolutely worthless. Donât waste your money!!! I am baffled considering this is a good brand. I know theyâre are random sellers on Amazon so itâs either a counterfeit product or the product is completely ineffective. Not happy!!! Donât buy!!!!

Have to try it and leave for at least 30 mins hoping to get better coverage. The applicator brush is great and the tube can be used twice, coverage wise is not great but will give it another try and revise again, possibly with black color as I got the dark brown and is not enough for black hair

Hopeful that is an easier touch up on root. However, you need to hold it upright otherwise the cream will keep flowing out. Its like the usual permanent colour cream but the effects were below expectations. After putting for 20mins or more, the colour didn’t stay. I didn’t use shampoo to wash just water. But guess it was washed off and hair still remains gray. Waste of time.
