Riveting Performance from a gifted actress who takes chances in every performance.
Nicole Kidman is an actress who takes chances with her performances. In this wonderful subdued thriller, her performance is riveting. She awakes every morning to be a tabula rosa, a blank slate with her memory gone on who she is and the man next to her in bed. Her analyst must explain their connection, every morning.Peeling back the layers of memory and event is the journey of the movie. It is well worth the time spent to gain, if excruciatingly slowly, her insight on who she is and what has happened.Colin Firth is his redoubtable self and the extremely contained caregiver who deals with her confusion and disbelief, every day.

Amazing Character Portrayal
I really like both of these actors plus I like a good mystery. Colin Firth and Nicole KIdman created such believable characters that I was sucked into the mystery within minutes. Watching Colin Firth’s character brought out admiration and compassion. Kidman was sympathetic, then clues and hits that all was not as it seemed started to bubble up in the action. The twist to the plot is both surprising and very believable. The two actors almost single handedly carry out a very complex thriller. I loved. Hope you enjoy it when you watch it.

A 2000 version of Fatal Attraction with a little Silence of the Lambs creepiness thrown in
Woman wakes up with a man each day only to ask who he is as she can’t remember anything from one day to the next after she was beaten and left for dead a few years earlier. They don’t know who attacked her but she was left for dead outside near a factory near the airport. Anyway, a head doctor calls her each morning asking her to get a camera out of hiding that he gave her. She used the camera to record video of her memories at the end of each day. After he calls her and reminds her of the camera/recordings she watches them and then moves a littler closer to remembering everything and “fixing” her memory.Like all Kidman movies this is a quality movie. However, this is one of those creepy scarey sicko movies. It actually reminds me of a movie I saw with Jennifer Anniston and that British chap. Creepy. Gross. Anyway, it is also a retake on the 80s creepy pyscho movie “Fatal Attractiion” for sure. If you like gross stories lines where innocent helpless people are at the mercy of sadistic abusive people this movie is for you. If you like being shocked and on the edge of your seat at the plot twists and turns this movie is for you. If you like creepy movies like “Silence of the Lambs” this movie is definitely for you.I personally don’t like gore. And will not watch a movie with it in it. While there are some graphic images around the attack scene I wouldn’t say they were R rated movie scale. I mean you watch the attacker smash Kidman’s head with several objects. You see her all bloody. You also see another attack scene when the Kidman character remembers and fights with the attacker. More people stabbing and beating each other with objects. But again it is not like most R rate movies. Also she is nude from behind (fully nude). Not too much profanity for an American R rate movie. It is the idea behind the movie that is sick.

Forgetting Mr. Darcy…
Christine: Who are you?Ben: I’m your husband… Ben.Christine: What?Ben: We got married in 1999. That was fourteen years ago. Christine, you’re forty.Christine (Nicole Kidman) is amnesiac. Every night, as she sleeps, her memory leaves her, and she wakes up with no recollection of who she is, where she is, and who her husband is. She doesnât know her real age, and how long sheâd been that way. Each day is a puzzle for her, and snippets of information come and go like a puff of smoke. Her husband Ben (Colin Firth) is there for her in every step of the way, protecting her from her painful flashbacks, and from the problems with their marriage. But Christine wants answers. Her flashbacks get more and more explicit with each passing day. Flashes of violence attack her as if from nowhere. There’s a man with a scar. And there’s blood â lots of it. Thereâs also a former friend. She also has a son, or HAD a son? All the pieces of the puzzle come together as she seeks the help of a neurological psychologist who tells her to keep a video diary of the things she remembers, so she could watch it the next day. (The psychologist calls her to remind her of this everyday.) But does she want to know the truth? She does. Should she know the truth though? Ben keeps lying to her, and he says itâs for her own good. Maybe it isâ¦Domestic thrillers like this are huge now. GONE GIRL set the stage, and now itâs dominating the book and video-streaming shelves. Itâs why my writing is doing so well. People love this stuff. As far as psychological thrillers go, BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP is suspenseful, gritty and surprising. The mystery aspect is also good â and I love the foggy atmosphere throughout the movie. Is it the best Iâve seen? No. Far from it. But itâs not terrible either. Nicole Kidman does an amazing job here, but her English accent is not as good as I expected. It sounds way too clipped, surprising coming from an Australian actress who does mostly English or American accents in films. Her performance is excellent though. Colin Firth is also great in this movie. Heâs a far cry from Mr. Darcy here, thatâs for sure! Downsides? The plot is slow-paced, but this changes toward the end, where the ending is a little too rushed for my liking. There’s something else thatâs troubling, but I wonât into it now. I am reading a novel with a super sinister plot and character, and Iâll delve into the subject in that review. BEFORE I GO TO SLEEP is good, but not great. I didnât read the book, so I cannot comment on it. The movie tanked at the box office, but don’t let that fool you. This category of fiction is hot now, but some movies aren’t meant for the big screen, and this is one of them. It would have been better off as a Netflix Original. I give this three and a half out of five caramel iced coffees.

I thought Nicole Kidman played a great role as someone living through a very scary nightmare situation when every morning her memory is wiped back to zero. She plays the role as someone in an terrible situation bit who is a strong character, determined not to be beaten by this memory loss.Ben played by Colin Firth is also excellent and I was taken in as Colin Firth is Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice , he couldnât possibly be anything other than her loving caring husbandâ¦.or could he?The other characters were equally good and believable and Christine and Ben live in a beautiful, immaculate modern house giving the impression of the perfect, wealthy couple suffering an unfortunate situation after an accident.Christine remembers vaguely someone with red hair and the neurologist tells her it is a friend, Claire. If she is Christineâs friend why is she not around helping her? Christine does manage to get in contact with Claire and that is when Christine really things begin to think things are not quite as Ben is telling her.The story is well told and the characters all well performed and the feeling or sense of tension and menace and mystery is certainly there but I felt the film just missed something. Maybe the tension could have been built up for longer and maybe the ending was a little too swift but something was just not quite five star in the film. The music was background mainly but I do remember âYou Keep Me Hangin’ Onâ by The Supremes and a couple of others that I now cannot bring to mind . The music was not an integral part of this film really. The film was set and shot in London but in fact it was not very much in evident and could have been anywhere in reality. There were some obvious plot holes such as why/how does the neurologist contact Christine by phone and not have her come to his office if Ben is paying and if he is paying how does the neurologist know something is not quite right with the situation, ie more than just her memory loss.I felt the ending was too fast and to neatly tied up yet left more questions really such as how could this situation take place in reality. However it is a film and a good story that kept us interested till the end despite some annoying parts.
