    I buy again and again
My doctor recommended these all natural sleep aids. I have used them for years and they just take the edge off and make it easier to fall asleep.

    Something that works
I have tried plain melatonin, with poor results. This product has 2 other ingredients that make it more effective with virtually no side effects. I take one with a cup of camomile tea and am able to quickly fall asleep. I still wake up during the night, but do not lie there, tossing and turning trying to get back to sleep. I have since purchased again.

Seems to work, give it time, could be cheaper.
My mom recommended these, and I normally never take over-the-counter or herbal supplements, but she swore by them. I must say they do work for me most of the time. One caveat: give them at least between one and two weeks before you make up your mind it’s not an immediate effect, I had read that and it was indeed true.Like all valerian products it really stinks but just plug your nose and down it.I take a half of one lots of times and that’s adequate. Be sure to take it an hour before you want to start getting sleepy. My one star deduction was for the price primarily.

    I’m a pharmacist and I have used and like Alteril… but…
I love Alteril, but it’s pricey. I found the spring valley sleep aid at Walmart works pretty much just as good and I get it for less than $5/month (Amazon sells it too but sometimes I see it on here for $15 a bottle which is insane so make sure to price shop … you can usually find it at Walmart or cvs for a lot cheaper). I just signed up to get the Natures Bounty sleep 3 supplement on auto ship so I’ll be trialing that one with my subscribe and save discount which is a convenient shipment so I don’t run out (recently Walmart ran out of my sleep aid and I panicked). The natures bounty sleep 3 also had a 25% off the first shipment coupon with it currently so that made it worth trying – ingredients look similar to what’s in Alteril so thought I’d share some insight with everyone here shelling out the dough for this stuff. Honestly, based on the ingredients, Alteril is making a killing charging this much. I really think it’s a great product and it does work for me as long as I take it an hour before I start my bedtime routine, but it’s overpriced.I’m a clinical pharmacist at a hospital. I’ve suffered from insomnia since high school. I’ve done all the recommended sleep hygiene routines, meditation, yoga, hypnosis, and prescription sleep medications because I can’t fall asleep. I DO recommend my version of sleep hygiene that I’ve adopted over the years in addition to this product – avoiding ALL caffeine past 2pm (this includes chocolate), exercising early in the day (but always getting some exercise every day), making a to do list and/or journaling to get all those damn thoughts out that keep us up, meditating for at least 10 min a day, having a bedtime routine so your body associates the routine with falling asleep, maintaining a sleep schedule even on weekends/days off (this was the hardest and yet most beneficial one for me), avoid alcohol, and stretching every day to help reduce pain/muscle strain from the day that might keep you up. I recommend checking out some physical therapy and stretching sites to build your own routine. And investing in a foam roller and lacrosse ball – look up how to use them properly. I also own a scraping tool and a massage gun because I work out pretty intensely and get sore. Invest in yourself… your body is where you have to live… take care of it.We’re all different… yet fundamentally the same. Insomnia is a symptom of an unhealthy lifestyle that we need to examine and be honest with ourselves about the changes we need to make. It’s okay to use products to help assist us but ultimately the real “fix” lies in our ability to examine our lives and behaviors honestly and then do the difficult work of making the changes. My insomnia means I will lay in bed for anywhere from 1-3 hours before falling asleep. Once I’m asleep, I’m usually good, but if I’m stressed or ill I usually wake up throughout the night at 3am or 4am. I’ve now learned this is my body signaling I’m either getting sick, I am sick (thanks Captain Obvious body I’d like to rest instead of waking up all night), or I’m stressed and need to evaluate wtf is stressing me out and either change it or meditate more to counteract the negative effects of stress I cannot change (ie work).I also take a calcium/magnesium/zinc with this herbal sleep aid, collagen, and Flexeril (a muscle relaxer) every night and a casein protein shake. I fill two pill box once a month – one with night meds and one with my day meds. Please do not ever use NyQuil, unisom, or other sleep aids with diphenhydramine or other antihistamines to sleep. Antihistamines used short term can cause dryness and grogginess and used long term have been linked to dementia (the connection is thought to be because they basically “dry” the brain out in layman’s terms). I have horrible dry eyes so I avoid antihistamines like the plague… but wanted to mention this because I’ve learned the majority of the public doesn’t know this about otc sleep aids.If interested, my daytime supplements that I recommend include: 2 protein shakes a day – one with collagen powder added in, a teaspoon of cod liver oil (for hair and skin), coenzyme q10 (for heart and muscle health), Pearls probiotic (for gut/digestive health – I DO NOT recommend yogurt ever as that is a processed food and calories you don’t need – rotate the different versions of the Pearls probiotics to get the best effect), saw palmetto (for hair growth), kelp (to support thyroid function), potassium (for fluid balance, prevents bloating), Ocuvite eye vitamin (because I stare at a computer all day at work), and a multivitamin (I usually get the Equate prenatal – prefer since it’s only 1 tablet – or spring valley hair, skin, and nails – not as favorable because dose is 3 caplets but they are small… still have that vitamin smell slightly… I use these two because these are the only ones I can take and not get nauseous… the centrum for women is also good but it’s pricey.Again, exercise, stretching, and having a bedtime routine will be fundamental to “curing” your insomnia. Love yourself enough to have the discipline to do what’s best for YOU… or you’ll pay the price with your health later on. I wish peaceful and restorative sleep for all my fellow recovering insomniacs 🙏

    Naturally sleepy.
My doctor recommended Alteril by name and my sleep regimen has been much better. I use it every night and am able to fall asleep naturally, I have no other side effects at all. I recommend this to all family and friends that need help getting to sleep without using over the counter drugs or prescriptions.
