Anticipate cold weather with a quick glance out the window at this digital outdoor window thermometer. Made by Chaney AcuRite, the thermometer sticks to any surface with a large, rubber suction on its metallic mount. The thermometer’s digital display conveys the temperature in easy-to-read 3/4-inch-high numerals. To offer illumination, a translucent pale green LCD frame borders the screen. The thermometer measures temperatures ranging from -4 to +158 degrees Fahrenheit to the tenth of a degree for precision; Celsius readings are not available with this item. Weather-resistant, the thermometer provides an on/off switch on its base underneath a weather-proof rubber seal. For the best results, install the thermometer out of direct sunlight. Moisten the suction before applying it to a clean window pane to ensure a strong bond. While the thermometer’s screen is not backlit, by painting or covering its backside white, the light from the frame may allow nighttime reading. A pre-installed L1154 cell battery powers the thermometer and can be replaced using a small Phillips screwdriver. Made in China. The thermometer measures 2 inches wide by 1/2 inch deep by 3-1/4 inches high and weighs 2 pounds upon shipping.

Customers say
Customers find the thermometer easy to install and use, with a display that’s large enough to be unobtrusive in a window. The accuracy receives mixed feedback – while some find it pretty accurate, others report it reads about 20 degrees warmer than actual temperature. The functionality and durability show mixed results, with some reporting it stops working correctly after 4 months and breaking within a month, while others find it dependable. The suction cup stickiness and value for money also get mixed reviews, with some saying it sticks nicely to the glass while others report it falling off frequently, and while some consider it not worth the money, others say it’s not bad for the price.

Most of the reviews are wrong!
OK, I’d like to address some complaints in other reviews. 1 – It doesn’t work. There is a plastic cover over the on off switch. This must be removed to turn it on. Just Saying. 2 – Accuracy. It is 1* different vs a NOAA Skywarn issued thermomotor. 3 – It’s too dim to read. As you can see from the picture I posted not true. It needs a back light to be readable!!!! 4 – It won’t stick! Moisten the suction cup before application. Again see pic.SPOILER ALERT: it is very small be forewarned!Overall it works as described. My 2 cents.

Accurate for many years
This has been on an outside window for several years and I just replaced the battery with a 357 button battery – easy to do with a small screwdriver – then pull the plastic tab to remove the old cell. The display is strongly visible again. Mine has worked so well that I bought one for my dad which he put on a sliding glass door – he just needs to remember not to open the door too far or it gets knocked off.

Temperature isn’t anywhere near accurate…
If you have $13 you just want to toss out the window, (same one this gadget is installed on), open the window, reach up, pull off glass and throw on ground. No, that’s a breach against the environment, don’t do that. Instead, take the $13 and light it up with something inside it. It will give you much more satisfaction than the expectation and subsequent disappointment of this item functioning improperly. Let me address the “suggested areas of concern” for this review: “Thermometer quality” = actually it looks pretty solid and I like the design- suction cup probably would have lasted awhile and the first one was out there for about 6 days before I lost faith…. Value for money: Nyet, Temperature accuracy: 12 degrees off not acceptable by anyone’s standards, Ease of Use: Oh!!! It was actually easy, if you don’t count the masking tape I applied to the back to see the numbers, which are otherwise invisible.

almost perfect
thought i’d address some of the negative reviews.1. doesn’t stick to cold windows. yes, it does. i had the same problem. my thermometer would only stick for 15-20 minutes before falling off. but as another reviewer said, glass needs to be clean and dry before attaching suction cup. mine’s been up now for a couple of weeks through single digit temps and snow.2. stopped working after a year. thermometer is B-A-T-T-E-R-Y P-O-W-E-R-E-D. change the battery!3. can’t see display at night. this is true. display is clear plastic, so when you look at temperature, you’re looking through clear plastic. i tried a flashlight, but that didn’t work too well. another reviewer used white paint on the back, which while reading review i couldn’t figure out for the life of me what they were talking about. now i know. i didn’t have white paint so i used masking tape on the back of the display and it works really well.4. display not very large. i live in an apartment and don’t want a huge thermometer on my window. if you want to be able to see thermometer from across the room, GET A BIGGER THERMOMETER!the reason i’m giving four stars instead of five is because a person shouldn’t have to use anything on the back of the display to read it, even though fix is really simple. clearly the person who designed thermometer DIDN’T test it at night. otherwise, it works quite well.

Accurate temps, but unreadable in the dark
Accurate enough, but if you want to look out the window to see what the temperature is in the dark, forget about it. The numbers become virtually invisible on this thermometer without any light behind it. The model it replaced had a solid back, but was – unfortunately – discontinued.

Years old model, still going strong.
I have one of these that I bought a few years ago, and it still works, and sticks to the window, just fine. It fell off once; I just cleaned the window and the suction cup and reattached it. My one and only issue is that you can’t read the temperature when it’s dark outside. Other than that, I find this to be an excellent product. I’ve changed the battery once (just recently). I’m now looking for one that works the same way, but for inside or outside, and I’m going with this same brand, even knowing that one can no longer rely on any brand maintaining their product longevity. I’m hoping this manufacturer isn’t going with the current planned obsolescence craze.

Couldn’t be happier!
Works fantastic as a refrigerator thermometer! I looked long and hard trying to find a thermometer for my glass door refrigerator in my shop that had suction cup mounting and could also be seen with the door closed. This one checked all of my boxes and I absolutely couldn’t be happier with it! It’s already assembled and has the battery in it so it’s ready to go! Just flip the covered on/off switch and done! Within 2 minutes it was able to adjust itself down to the real-time temp of the fridge. I am so happy with how this addition turned out! It’s compact size doesn’t require a lot of room to mount and allows it to fit in tighter areas than others could! 10 out of 10, I absolutely would recommend this to anyone looking for a thermometer for a glass door fridge!

I thought it was cool at first.
But then i wanted to see what the temperature was at night, and no number is visible unless there is bright backlight (daylight). Now, the number is fading away so that it is barely visible even in daylight.

I didn’t notice it wasn’t showing both common temperature scales ! My error !! I only wanted degrees C..

A good outdoor, stuck on the window thermometer.Cons: only F and not highly visible when dusk or dark out. Place in a window that has an outdoor light.

Thermometer arrived quickly and was purchased to replace an existing one which had ceased working I obviously didnât look closely enough when purchasing to see that it was Fahrenheit, itâs not a problem as managed to get the Centigrade one working so now have both without having to convert.

We live in Canada!! We use celsius and this thermometer cannot be changed to celsius as most can. I owned a AcuRite theremometer before and it could be changed to celsius and I liked it very much. Very disappointed in AcuRite. If you buy from Amazon this item cannot be returned! I find the readout too faint for me to see clearly. Beware.

This thermometer sticks on the outside of my glass door thus giving the outside temperature at a glance. I am never stuck wearing the wrong coat!
