Close to the inspiration; mediocre longevity.
The inspired fragrance, Black Opium, has been a favorite of mine for many years. Because of this I have tried a few dupes with varying levels of success. This is a solid contender here, with minor reservations.First, if you are not familiar with the inspiration it’s a warm, sultry blend of coffee, vanilla, white florals (mostly jasmine), some fruity pear in the opening, and hints of patchouli and cedar. The coffee here is not bitter, but syrupy sweet. In fact, the original is heavy on the sweet factor, to the point where most of the notes feel as if they have been immersed and simmered in a sugary syrup. But this is a sophisticated sweetness that is heavy and rich, rather than light and ephemeral.The bottle is small and thin, and dispenses a fine mist. It comes capped and easily fits into the smallest makeup bags or even a wallet. Because it is capped I have not had issues with leaking so carrying it in my purse is an easy choice.Now, all that said, how close does this come to the original? I would say it is similar in profile, and unlike some other inspired products actually gets the pear note in the opening. What is missing for me is the heavy, almost suffocating syrupy sweetness. While the profile is truly spot on, the intensity is hinted at. And along with this comes the mediocre (at best) longevity. I did try this in the summer heat, and it was strong for about an hour, noticeable for two hours, and a skin scent by the fourth hour. The small size is great because this would definitely need to be resprayed if one is out and about.If you always wanted a less intense version of the original, this might be a better (and more affordable) option because it’s truly a lighter version! Personally, I love the intensity of the original but do appreciate options like this that are portable and great for touch ups. Overall, a solid inspiration, mediocre longevity, and average value given available choices.

this perfume surprised me.. in the best way. the bergamot and vanilla combo is so soft and sweet without being overpowering. it settles into the skin really nicely and actually lasts longer than i expected for the size. perfect to throw in your bag for a quick refresh.. iâve had people ask what iâm wearing!

This is one of my favorites! It is not strong and smells very comfortable. The fragrance feels like a “skin-friendly fragrance”, like the natural fragrance of your own body, not pungent or cheap. I have no pressure to use it in the office, and my colleagues secretly asked me which perfume I use. The small bottle is suitable for carrying around, and can be used when going out and dating.
